Greer Middle School Students celebrate Spirit Week choosing the Ronald McDonald House as their Charity

Greer Middle School students celebrated Spirit Week in style as they capped off the week with Decade Day.  Throughout the week of October 15-18th Greer Middle students participated in dress up days, decorating contests, and homeroom competitions as part of Spirit Week.  Monday students and teachers came dressed to support their Jackets decked out in black and gold.  Tuesday everyone had a twin or some triplets, quintuplets and more as they celebrated twin day.  Wednesday we saw overalls, plaid shirts, cowboy boots and hats, and all the fixings for a great farm day.  Thursday to wrap up the week students and teachers alike dressed to impress as individuals from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.  Each grade level had a decade them to spin off of.  6th grade was responsible for the 60’s as they dressed in their hippy attire and decorated their section of the library with a 60’s style diner.  7th grade went back to the 70’s decked out in disco fever and used their space to display a Disco Dance Party.  8th grade reminded us of the 80’s as they came with their wild colors, crazy hair dos, and 80’s style clothing to showcase a 80’s concert theme.  Judges had a tough time choosing between the different grade levels to determine the winner but 6th grade took home the gold with their 60’s diner.  Throughout the week homerooms competed against one another by bringing in can tabs to support the Ronald McDonald House.  The Ronald McDonald House uses the can tabs as part of their partnership with recycling agencies to help adolescents that are hospitalized for various reasons.  Greer Middle came together to support a great cause for individuals that our students can relate to, individuals just like them.  Bill Sorochak (pictured above), a representative from the Ronald McDonald House, spent time with students on Thursday sharing how much our students did for their charity and was able to get a quick snapshot with Greer Middle Student Council members showing some of the many can tabs collected.  Mrs. Parson’s homeroom took first place for 6th grade, Mrs. Johnson’s homeroom for 7th grade, and Mr. Sturgill’s homeroom for 8th grade.  For the overall school competition Mr. Sturgill’s homeroom walked away with the gold.  Spirit week gave students and teachers alike the opportunity to dress a little crazy, have a little fun, represent their homerooms, and compete for a good cause.
