It is with sincere pride, gratitude and privilege that I complete my first year as Board President of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas (RMHCC).
My pride stems from the continued ability of RMHCC to provide a "home away from home" for the parents and families of ill and hospitalized children. This service is provided with the unbridled love, compassion, care and concern that is constantly exhibited by our Executive Director, Bill Sorochak, our House Manager, Marsha Smith, our Night Manager, Tasha Bruce, our Program Director, Marti Spencer, our Book Keeper, Jane Lukas and our weekend managers and the many volunteers that give of their time, talent and treasurers to ensure that our residents enjoy all of the traditional family values and comforts.
My gratitude cannot be expressed enough to all the above plus our Board of Directors, the community at large and the many individuals, organizations and events that have selected the Ronald McDonald House as the recipient of their contributions. We are most grateful.
I would be remiss if I did not mention that I am also extremely gratified by the approval we recently received from Ronald McDonald Charities Corporate to proceed with our plans for expansion. This will be a major undertaking and along with our Board and staff, I look forward to it with excitement and anxious anticipation.
Last December we again held our signature event, The McGala. Under the direction of Marti Spencer, it was a huge success. My sincere appreciation to the businesses, organizations and individuals who contributed in a variety of ways, to ensure its success.
2008 is shaping up to be another challenging year. We are regularly at 100% occupancy and the need for expansion becomes more obvious daily. We are excited about moving forward with our expansion plans and are confident that the Greenville, Spartanburg, Asheville area businesses, organizations, and individuals will assure that our dream becomes a reality. We are again planning a number of fund raising events this year to ensure our continued services to the community, and April 1, 2009 will be the House's 20 year anniversary!
It has my privilege to lead this wonderful organization and assist in taking the house to the next level. I look forward to my final year as president with excitement and youthful anticipation. "Love" has sometimes been defined as "complacency in a known good". Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas is a living example of "Love" and this "love" is the centerpiece of our mission and will be continue to be built and grow our success.
Sincerely yours,
Joe
